Why do you need a license?
Voyaging to foreign waters? Installing a HF SSB radio on your boat? You need a Ship Station License for the radios aboard your vessel from the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). Someone on the boat (usually the "Captain") also needs a Restricted Radio Telephone Operators Permit - that is a license to operate or supervise the operation of that "Ship Station". We can make obtaining those licenses as painless as possible. Simply fill out our form, fax it to us, and we will have the information you need in typically 2 - 3 business days.
Please Note that at this time, we can ONLY proccess licenses for vessels and aircraft registered in the United States. Please contact the telecommuncations authority in your country of registry if outside the US for information on what licenses you may need.
Once you fax in our easy to understand form, your license will be processed by the staff at ShipLicense.com for a nominal fee of $125 for one ship/aircraft license and one operators permit filed under and paid using the same FRN (Federal Registration Number - an identifying number used by the government that we will also obtain for you as part of the process). Additional licenses under the same FRN are $85 each. Contact us for the fees for other FCC services you might need by using the form on the contact page.
That is in addition to the FCC fees, which are currently $160 for the Ship Station License and $60 for the Restricted Radio Telephone Operators Permit. There will be two charges to your credit card. One for the processing fee from us, billed by H.F. Radio on Board. The other will be by the FCC for the actual license fees.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Take the time to PRINT your information on our form CLEARLY!!! It will only delay the processing of your license and make our staff cranky if they can't read it. You know what is says - we don't. We recommend you use black ink as that seems to come through the best on a fax machine and some fax machines don't do a very good job of scanning your form.
